Starting all over has never looked more tasty for the Pelicans. Injuries a long time ago torpedoed their season, and Dejointe Murray’s cracked right Achilles late also threatens with submarine next year.

Two choices of the first round and kuminga act as a pittance for Zion. But his value is inevitable when considering his forever-question health. This returns New Orleans’ draft cabinet while shaving $ 19.5 million in immediate payroll. Plus, the Golden State’s 2025 can first end up in the lottery, and a 2027 choice from any team that is closely tied to Zion’s availability carries true mystery as New Orleans knows too well.

Taking on Harris (one year, $ 26.6 million back after 2024-25) and Anderson (two years, $ 18.9 million) is not ideal. But they are combined to earn $ 34.4 million less than McCollum and Zion in 2025-26. It should give Pelican’s flexibility to hashish out new contracts for Kuminga (limited) and, if they choose it, Brandon Ingram while remaining under luxury tax.

Fine points in this frame can be calibrated. The pelicans can hang on green (plays well for them). They can try to expand the conditions for getting out of money instead of Anderson. They can ask Warriors to loosen 2027 protection and/or include a 2026 swap. As at the moment, however, it should not be considered ridiculous. It is at least a viable starting point.
