50 cents, in, def Jam Share tribute

After news broke about the death of Murder Inc. Records co-founder Irv Gotti on Wednesday (February 5), poured tribute from the hip-hop world, including from the label where he got his start, Def Jam.

Gotti started in the A&R on the hip-hop brand before founding the cultural-dominant murder Inc. imprint with his brother, Chris Gotti. In a statement sent to Instagram, Def Jam said the label was “deeply sad” of Gotti’s death at the age of 54.

“Def Jam -Footing and the extended DEF Jam family of artists, leaders and employees are deeply sad about the loss of Irv Gotti,” the statement says. “His contribution to DEF Jam, who both A&R performing and in partnership with Murder Inc., helped pave the way for the next generation of artists and producers, a strength that reshaped the soundscape of hip-hop and R&B. His creative genius and unwavering dedication to the culture gave birth to countless hits that define an era of music that continues to resonate with fans around the world. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who were touched by his work.

In true 50 cents -style, the rapper published a photo of himself smoking next to a tomb of tombstone that sounds “rip” along with Instagram Caption: “I smoke on the dat gotti pack, nah god bless him lol.” The second photo in his post is a red-blanket picture of the deceased mogul that had a contentious relationship with the G-Unit rapper over the years.
