Fewer workers who want to change jobs in Canada: Report

Why do workers look for a new job?

The biggest reasons why workers mentioned to have a new position are the following, according to Robert Half‘s study of 1,500 professionals throughout Canada, performed in December 2024:

  • A higher salary (41%)
  • Better perks and benefits (31%)
  • More remote flexibility than what their company offers (27%)
  • Greater professional development opportunities (20%)

In the meantime, the following can deter workers from applying for open positions:

  • No pay area in the job description (42%)
  • Guard or unreasonable job responsibility, reporting lines and career path (35%)
  • Poor communication with the employment manager or recruiter (33%)

Unemployment in Canada fell slightly to 6.7% in December 2024, down 0.1 percentage points from November. On an annual basis, however, the unemployment rate increased by 0.9 percentage points, According to Statistics Canada.
