Virat Kohli misses first ODI against England with damage

India’s Captain Rohit Sharma said at a thrown that Kohli had hurt his right knee while training Wednesday night.

Jaiswal was split to open with Rohit on BCCI’s team sheets with Deputy Captain Shubman Gill, who would have opened if Kohli was in shape, listed on # 4, though it is left to see if this order is left. India lost thrown and bowled first in Nagpur.

The three matches against England are India’s last ODDs before Champions Trophy begins on February 19th. They haven’t played the ODI cricket since August last year when they lost a two-match bilateral series 2-0 in Sri Lanka, with a match tied.

Kohli’s form has been under control in recent months, and after a bad tour of Australia, where all his layoffs were edges for wicket holder or slip cordon, he spent a week working with former India and RCB batting coach Sanjay Bangar. Then he played a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi – his first performance in the competition since 2012 – where he was bowled for 6 against railways.

However, Odi Cricket is Kohli’s strongest format and he is 94 races away from only becoming the third dough to reach 14,000 races in the format. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara have come there before, but Kohli is sure to become the fastest to the milestone.
