After a gloomy and cloudy Wednesday, parts of the region saw gossip overnight and freezing rain. The weather will turn to rain on Thursday morning and create slippery road conditions.

Frising rain creates a smooth morning commuting for those who drive to work in the DC area on Thursday morning.

After a gloomy and cloudy Wednesday, parts of the region saw gossip overnight and freezing rain. WTOP meteorologist Chad Merrill said the weather will turn to rain on Thursday morning, which could sometimes be heavy, creating smooth road conditions.

“These bridges, sidewalks and transitions will continue to be a bit icy until around 10 pm. 9, ”said Merrill. That’s when the temperature is expected to heat over freezing.

A winter weather advice that is in effect until 1 p.m. 10 Thursday. There is also an Ice Storm warning for Father Western Maryland throughout noon.

Several school systems in the DC area have announced closures or delays on Thursday due to the forecast. See the full list here.

“Most of the most important pathways have pavement temperatures anywhere from 32 to 34 degrees, but when you cross these bridges and transitions, it can easily be an ice sheet,” Merrill said.

He said that fog is probably in Blue Ridge and along Potomac and Chesapeake Bay before the hot front pushes through around 2 p.m. 11

The rain is expected to end between noon and 15:00 with a “little bit of sunshine” and it warms over freezing at about 40 degrees.

Merrill said the ice will melt around 2 p.m. 9, when all rainfall changes to rain. A few rainfall is probably late Thursday morning before the rain ends.

“We have to look after some dense fog that develops right after sunset tonight, which will be a little widespread tonight,” Merrill said.

As the wind kicks in, he said fog will clear overnight and into Friday morning.

Friday will be sunny, but blows with temperature heights approaching 50 degrees. But another winter mix is possible for Saturday afternoon with cool heights in the upper 30s.
