Tennessee vs uconn -Foresiferation for Kim Caldwell vs Geno Auriemma

Lady Vols Basketball’s long -standing series with Uconn is back after a year of hiatus.

No. 19 Tennessee (16-5, 4-5 sec) plays no. 6 UCONN (21-2, 12-0 BIG EAST) at the Food City Center Thursday (18:30 ET, ESPN). The historical rivals did not play last season due to planning conflicts, but the series is back in Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell’s first season. Uconn leads the series 17-9 and has won the last four meetings.

Here’s what you need to know about Matchup.

PAIGE BUECKERS, Sarah Strong Lead Uconn

Huskies are led by the first team of All-American Senior Guard Paige Bueckers, one of the best players in the nation and probably # 1 election in this year’s WNBA draft.

BUecker’s average 19 points, 4.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and two steals. She shoots 54.4% from the track and 42.1% from 3-point range of 4.5 trials per day. Match. She can score any way she wants, especially from the dribbling with her pull-up jumper.

Sarah Strong, contrary to the National Freshman of the Year Honors, is an average of 17 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.3 stealing and 1.4 blocks. The 6-foot-2 tip shoots 58.5% off the track and 37.3% from 3-point range of 4.4 attempts.

Uconn has depth and can handle pressure

There are typically seven or eight Uconn players in the rotation against top teams. The only time coach Geno Auriemma went deeper into his bench was against Louisville when 10 players were used for at least 12 minutes.

Huskies have handled defensively pressure well with the exception of their November match against Ole Miss when they had 18 revenue (and still won 73-60). It was the only game this season Uconn, which on average 10.5 revenue, had more than 13.

On the flip side, Huskies steals 18.7 revenue per Fight, 11.2 of them, to average 21.9 points from revenue.

Uconn has the depth and the passing ability to break Tennessee’s press. Lady Vols will have to protect Uconn in Half Court and hope they can worn it enough to give themselves a chance.

Huskies are effective, balanced on offense

Uconn is an effective offensive team that shoots 51.5% off the field and average 81.1 points per year. Match. It is also a good passing team that helps 67.3% of their field goals (21.7 assists per match).

Huskies are not as dominant in the position as they have been in recent years, but Strong has shooters around her to open space for her to work inside. Six players shoot at least 34% from 3-point range of at least two trials per year. Match.

The average nine made 3-points per Battle and shoots 37.9% as a team. Ashlynn Shade and Azzi FUDD have the highest percentage (44.4% and 42.5% respectively). FUDD is Uconn’s third highest goal scorer, an average of 11.3 points.

Tennessee cannot afford to have another slow start or to be stagnant offensively – it will be impossible to keep up with Uconn’s violation. Falling in an early deficit will not be easy to get back from.
