“For decades, USAID -Bureaucrats thought they were responsible for no one -but that era is over. President Trump stops waste, fraud and abuse,” wrote the Trump administration at X.

Technical billionaire Elon Musk also responded to the documents and called it a “crazy waste” of people’s tax money.

What is USAID?

USAID is by far the largest humanitarian and development arm for the US government with a workforce of approximately 10,000 people worldwide and an annual budget of tens of thousands of billions of dollars. Congress approves USA’s financing every year. The Humanitarian Agency then works with Congress and the White House to set its investment priorities, while the Ministry of State provides the foreign policy guidance.

The United States is the world’s largest provider of official development assistance, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Most of its support is channeled through USAID.
