“It broke my heart when he told me he would never be able to play football match again.

“Football was my worst sport in high school, and the only reason I played was because he was playing and I wanted to be like him so much.

“I was a much better basketball player. I was a much better spor athlete. But I played football because my brother played.”

This is not the first time Shannon pays tribute to his older brother.

Sterling’s former team Green Bay won the Super Bowl in 1996. Because he was unable to be on the team, Shannon gave him the first of the three Super Bowl rings he won.

Sterling was also with Shannon when he was enshrined in Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Sharpe then ready to cry before he took the podium, and had already spoken through a cracking voice while interviewing before the event even began.

When a tear rolled down his eye, he thanked his brother for his influence while expressing regret that he would not join him in Canton, Ohio‘s famous halls.
