Australia dominates the first day of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka

Australia dominated the procedure on the opening day of the second test against Sri Lanka in Galle as the hosts slipped to 229-9.

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon took the first three wickets of laps, including the opener Dimuth Karunarara, who plays in his 100th and last test and was bowled for 36.

Dinesh Chandimal fought 74 from 163 deliveries before being blunted by Alex Carey from the bowling of left armspinner Matthew Kuhnemann to leave Sri Lanka 150-6.

Namesake’s Kusal and Ramesh Mendis added 65 to the seventh wicket before Mitchell Starc got the latter trapped in 28.

Starc then removed Prabath Jayasuriya with the following delivery, and Kuhnemann Bowled Nishan Peiris a few overs before the end.

Kusal Mendis sits undefeated on 59 overnight, where Australia needs a wicket to wrap in laps.

Visitors won the first match of the two-game series with a record entrance and 242 races.

They handed over a test debut to 21-year-old Allrounder Cooper Connolly, where the Western Australian went for 0-12 in his three overs.
