Immigration NYC: New Attorney General Pam Bondi Pausing Financing to Sanctuary Cities including New York City

New York City (WABC) – On his first day as a lawyer, Pam Bondi took aim cities, limiting cooperation with the federal immigration authorities and ordering a 60-day break for financing to Sanctuary Cities, including New York.

The Sanctuary status was created to encourage undocumented immigrants to report crimes and use public services without fear of being deported.

The Adams administration makes it clear that it has collaborated with ICE agents during targeted operations throughout the city, and he believes that local law should change.

“They are responsible for performing their jobs as immigration officials,” Adams said. “I don’t decide that. And I can’t have any city employee who would get in the way of those who perform their jobs as a federal authority.”

But fear and indignation continue to grow in the city, and some believe that the mayor should not help Trump administration to execute his executive orders.

“I am especially disappointed now that we have a mayor who is more an assistant to Donald Trump than a mayor of New York City,” said public lawyer Jumaane Williams.

Other critics of Adams say he is dealing with his own best interest in mind.

“Instead of having a mayor who is willing to stand up and protect, we have a mayor who issues guidance that says we will do what you want President Trump,” added State Secretary Zellnor Myrie.

Myrie and New York City Councilwoman Rita Joseph were with others outside Kings County Hospital to express their concern about the city’s public hospital system, which tells it not helping patients to avoid ice officials.

“We know very well that this hospital earns a huge amount of immigrants,” Joseph said. “The last time I was here I was told that patients stopped coming after their care because they were scared.”

A DACA resident and parent named Monica told Eyewitness News Everyday Activity now brings another fear.

“Everyday activities such as medical appointments, groceries and participation in the church are now something that our family members need to consider,” she acknowledged. “Are we safe here?”

Adams is ready to testify before Congress, with its belief in being the local law of shrine status, must change.
