Russell Vought Confirmed to the main government’s leading budget office after Dems has 30-hour protest

Despite democratic tactics to delay the confirmation vote, the Senate Russell Vidgunt confirmed to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Republicans supported Vought’s nomination and argued that he proved a qualified candidate for the role when he had previously held the position of President Donald Trump’s first period. Democrats, however, raised several concerns about his nomination and said that his views on the law of decomposition control, which strengthens that Congress has the power of the purse, disqualified him from the role.

Democrats held a 30-hour long protest against Vought’s nomination and kept talking in the middle of the night Wednesday in an attempt to delay the confirmation vote.

The Senate voted in a chaotic last floor on Thursday night to confirm won to lead OMB, 53 to 47.

Democratic senators repeatedly injected themselves during the confirmation vote and protested the nomination until the last second.

“No debate is allowed during a vote,” Senator Ashley Moody told R-FLA. The legislators told.

OMB is responsible for developing and executing the president’s budget as well as supervising and coordinating legislative proposals and priorities that are in line with the executive branch.

Vought appeared to the Senate Budget Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for confirmation hearings, in which he defended declarations that claimed that the law of decomposition control is constitutional.

The law adopted in 1974 states that Congress can oversee the executive department’s withholding of budget Authority. But Vought encountered criticism from Democrats for freezing $ 214 million in military assistance to Ukraine in 2019 – a decision that eventually led to Trump’s first impeachment.

Still, Vought Lawmakers told Trump to fight for the attitude that the law of control of acquisition is constitutional – and that he agrees with it.

“I think our colleagues should be just as amazing because this question goes beyond Republican or Democrat,” Blumenthal said on January 15. “It’s bigger than some administration. Vought also faced the question of Democrats about his views on abortion as author of Project 2025, a political initiative conservative think tank Heritage Foundation released in 2023, which called for political changes that would implement a national ban on abortion of medicine.

Other proposals included in Project 2025 include the elimination of the Department of Education; cut diversity, equity and inclusion programs; and reduction of funding to Medicare and Medicaid.

“You’ve said you don’t believe in exceptions to rape, for incest or mother’s life,” said Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash., During a confirmation hearing Wednesday. “Is that your position?”

“Senator, my views are not important,” Vought. “I’m here on behalf of the president.”

Trump has repeatedly stated that he is backing abortion in some cases, declaring that “powerful exceptions” for abortion would remain in place during his administration.
