A suspected tornado event on Thursday night killed two people in a small East Tennessee community, the local emergency administration agency said.

Difficult weather blasted through Morgan County in the dark at night, killing a mother and daughter in the same home, the county’s relief and homeland security office said Friday on Facebook. No ages or other identifying information was provided.

Three injuries were also reported in the county, it says.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with families and loved ones by those affected by this tragic event,” the agency said.

A suspected tornado hit the small communities in Deer Lodge and Sunbright around 10 p.m. 20.27 and caused “serious property damage”, according to the county.

More than 100 emergencies are deployed in the county, Emergency Management Office said. It includes dozens from a Tennessee Highway Patrol “Strike Team.”

“We look for all people who are missing and we help in every way we can,” said State Highway Patrol Capt. Stacey Heatherly.

About 8 percent of Morgan County was without power from 1 p.m. 7.30 Friday, according to the tracking site Poweroutage.us.

This is an evolving story and will be updated.
