‘February frenzy’ of storms includes snow to SouthCentral Pa. Next week: Accuweather

SouthCentral Pennsylvania is in another round of winter rainfall over the weekend, and meteorologists are watching a more distinctive storm that could deliver snow to the region early next week.

Part of the country is expected to meet a stormy weather pattern throughout the rest of the month. Accuweather.com has called it a “February -Walvid” of winter storms.

SouthCentral Pennsylvania saw icy conditions early Thursday morning from a storm and it caused many schools to close or switch to remote learning. The forecast shows more chances of snow, frozen rainfall and rain through next weekend.

Vintry weather is expected to move into SouthCentral Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon with a short outbreak of snow that will change to gossip and freeze rain, said Dan Depodwin, senior director of forecast surgery, during a media briefing Friday. It will create smooth travel.

The rainfall is expected to switch to regular rain later Saturday night as temperatures rise above freezing. Travel conditions need to be improved.

It is not expected to be a big storm, Depodwin said.

“… the best risk of a significant snow event in the York area or places further east, such as Philadelphia, which seems to be coming Tuesday next week,” he said.

The Washington region, DC to New York City could see plowing snow from a storm early next week, Depodwin said.

“We’ve had some snow in all these cities, but haven’t had a real blizzard really between DC and New York and the kind of classic I-95 Corridor-Snestorm event, so this is probably the best chance of it,” said he.

Fresh cold air will be in place early next week, and a low pressure system can strengthen Atlantic Coast, which could draw more moisture from the sea, he said. When these ingredients gather right, it can settle for a significant snow event for parts of Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

The storm is expected to affect the area for the most part on Tuesday.
