Super Bowl Lix Preview: Eagles are the last obstacle to Chiefs’ historic 3 peat

When this NFL season is discussed year from now, the most sustained story will be Kansas City Chiefs’ search for three Super Bowls in a row.

Even if Chiefs lacks the historic performance in the Super Bowl Lix, they have already done something that no other team has done. Chiefs is the first team to win two straight Super Bowls and come back to a third in a row.

There have been two cases in the NFL History of Team that won three championships in a row, but they were not three Super Bowl championships in a row. Green Bay Packers won three equal championships in 1929-31 and again in 1965-67, where the latter two titles were the first two Super Bowls. Kansas City is trying to be the first team with three Super Bowl championships in a row.

Philadelphia Eagles is the last enemy that stands between chiefs and that story. Eagles and Chiefs met in the Super Bowl two years ago, with Harrison Butker kicking the game -winning field goal with eight seconds left. Eagles don’t care about Chiefs’ shot on the story. They will do something for their own story.

Deandre Hopkins was acquired by Chiefs before the trade deadline for being a difference producer with the recipient. He hasn’t been. Hopkins had 437 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games in regular season, and then had only one catch in 11 yards in two playoffs. He has not gone over 37 yards in a game since November. But doesn’t it seem to be something that Chiefs might be boiling up in the extra week’s preparation? Philadelphia is doing a good job of defending tight ends, putting a little more weight on Wideouts such as Hopkins and Hollywood Brown. Maybe Hopkins, 32 years old, doesn’t have many big games left in him. But if he does, this would be a perfect time for it. With a big game, that’s all someone would remember about Hopkins’ time with in Kansas City. The Super Bowls often have unexpected heroes, and while Hopkins is a big name, his production this season indicates that he is just a bit player on his way into this game. We’ll see what Andy Reid has in mind.

The Chiefs defense is a little better against the race than the pass. They allowed the 14 best net yards per Passports Total Total During the Ordinary Season and were seventh in rushing yard per year. Attempt. Statistics like EPA per Play and success rate Backing up that Kansas City is weaker and defending the pass. Will it affect Eagles’ approach? We know that Philadelphia will run the ball with Saquon Barkley and will probably try to establish it early. And the Chiefs defense has struggled a little recently against the race, allowing 149 and 147 yards rushing in their two playoffs. If Eagles can run the ball well towards Kansas City’s defense, with their strong offensive line at the forefront, that’s a good sign for them. Defensively, Eagles do not have many weaknesses. Super Bowl should be a match and can be lower score than expected. Philadelphia’s ability to get Barkley to go can be the difference.

Relaxed fans may not be aware that Chiefs is not the same team as they were a few years ago. Over the past two seasons, it has been transformed into a team with a top defense and a good-not-great offense that happens to have a legendary quarterback in his prime minister. Chiefs were fourth in allowed points and ninth at yards allowed this season while they were 15. In points scored and 16. In yards obtained. Part of this has been due to injuries. Chiefs lost Rashee Rice early and did not have Hollywood Brown or Isiah Pacheco available for a large part of the season. With a little better health, Chiefs put 32 points in the AFC Championship game against the bills. They hadn’t scored more than 30 points in a game all season. Chiefs do not create many explosive plays (they were in the bottom six of the NFL in 20-yard passport games and 40-yard passport games), and Eagles does not allow many deep passes. Kansas City is forced to put together long drives without making a mistake and then playing a strong defense behind it. It’s ok because they used that template to go 17-1 this season into play that their starters played.

Chiefs have somehow won 17 straight holding matches. It’s an NFL record and may never be matched again. It’s a statistical miracle. But it is far from all luck. Chiefs are expert coached, has a big quarterback and just by how to win close games. The way to beat chiefs is to make sure it’s not a one-score game that was decided in the last minutes, and good luck with it. Eagles are similar to the type of team that can beat chiefs. They are 15-1 since September, and their only loss came when Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion in the first quarter, and Jayden Daniels threw a game-winning touchdown with six seconds left. Eagles are not productive to throw the ball with evil, but it is the only weakness they have if it can even be called a weakness. Eagles have the offensive stars and offensive line to move the ball and score a bunch. Their defense is perhaps the best in the NFL. You don’t win 15 of 16 games without being an elite team. It’s hard to choose against Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid in a Super Bowl. They are masterful. But there are a few more weaknesses on the guard schedule than you see in Philadelphia. Chiefs are big, but Eagles have defended and the running game to do what no one else can see to do, and it’s beaten Kansas City in a one-score game. Eagles 21, Chiefs 19
