Saturday could be another winter day as cold weather brings the opportunity for snow and ice this weekend.

Cloudy sky is expected to roll in at the beginning at about 1 p.m. 9 Saturday as snow showers start south of Interstate 66.

“The area will be more widespread at. 10, ”said 7news First Alert Chief Meteorologist Veronica Johnson.

At. At 11:00, Johnson said Snow will interfere into the area with about half a inch that accumulates on the ground around that time. Then she said the freezing rain will move in.

“We could actually get about half a empty of snow in our sleep before we start switching over to get more of the freezing rain,” she said.

And it’s not short -lived; Johnson said the winter mix will last all day.

“It is an event that will last until 1 p.m. 22, especially for the northernmost counties in Maryland, ”Johnson said. “The roads get smooth – everything that is not treated, especially north and northwest of DC, so you really have to look at travel on Saturday in the late afternoon and evening.”

But there is good news in the DC area on Sunday for those who are on their way to the Super Bowl parties.

“On Sunday, however, we have partially sunny sky, and our temperatures will go from the 30s, mid -30s Saturday to the top 40s on Sunday, (and) will be a little windy,” she said.

Monday will be a break from the winter weather, but Tuesday there is more rainfall in the mixture.

“Another snow event is coming to Tuesday and going into Wednesday morning. Right now, it looks like we could get a handful of inches of snowfall, somewhere between maybe 3 and 7 inches of snow, ”Johnson said.
