'Sab Mile Hue Hai Ji': Can Kejriwal find 'Aapda' Mein 'Avsar'?

New Delhi: In 2013, with a pen in his pocket, a silencer embodied around his throat, loose sweater and blue wagon, Arvind Kejriwal “Aam Aadmi” as he entered public life. His decision to name his political party after “Aam Aadmi” reverberates strongly with the public.
After twelve years, the ambitions of establishing a nationwide party are reduced and emerging as a national leader of the official-facing activist who dared into politics by establishing his own party rather than participating in an existing one.

The Aam Aadmi party, which ruled Delhi for 10 years in a row and established a government in Punjab, suffered defeat in the capital’s elections on Saturday and secured 22 seats, while BJP won 48.
In his statement, Kejriwal assured that AAP members would continue their social work and emphasize that politics was only a means of serving the people. However, his political future is still uncertain.

AAPS setbacks and Kejriwal’s challenges

Kejriwal’s loss after a decade of power combined with the defeat of several AAP tungweights raises crucial questions about the party’s governance, strategy and long-term vision. AAP, who once had a brute majority in the Delhi Assembly, is now facing an existential crisis struggling to preserve its relevance.
Adding to Kejriwal’s evils are several legal battles. He was jailed because of corruption charges in connection with the now scattered Delhi-Point Tax Policy and is currently on bail. With ongoing investigations from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Kejriwal’s legal problems are far from over. If he is convicted in money laundering cases, he could have at least seven years in prison.
In addition, the Haryana government has brought a case against Kejriwal in accordance with the disaster management law on his statement of “married” in Yamuna water from Haryana. These legal entanglations make his political comeback even more challenging.

AAP’s uncertain future

After the Delhi loss, AAP’s influence has been significantly limited. The party remains only in power in Punjab, and its expansion efforts in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa have given little success. With the party now leaderless in the Delhi assembly and its national ambitions derailed, AAP is on a crossroads.
For Kejriwal, the road in the future may require a return to his root activity in street style, which first propelled him to a prominent role during the Anna Hazare movement. However, his biggest challenge will be to keep his party intact. AAP, once a strength driven by volunteers and grassroots support, is now at risk of fragmentation in the absence of political power.

A changing political landscape

Nationally, Congress may see AAPS weakening as an opportunity to regain lost ground in Delhi and beyond. Kejriwals diminished political status could also make him a less favored ally among opposition parties, which further isolated him in national politics.
Speculation is already rich in Kejriwal, which potentially shifts focus to Punjab, where AAP still has power. However, such a movement can trigger further instability within the party and raise questions about its management structure.

What lies in front?

Kejriwal’s immediate focus is likely to be on his legal battles. His political fate is related to whether he can clear his name and rebuild his credibility. Meanwhile, AAP needs to reassess its strategies and find a way to remain relevant in the evolving political landscape.
Currently, both Kejriwal and AAP are facing their most challenging phase yet – that names in a period of political uncertainty, internal churn and legal obstacles that could define their future orbit.
