Former US Open Champion says she has undergone an emergency surgery and will be out until the clay season

A former US Open champion has not started her season yet, and her stint on the sidelines is set to continue.

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu shocked the world as she beat Serena Williams to demand the title of Flushing Meadows back in 2019.

But the 24-year-old has been destroyed by an injury ever since, and she has not ended a whole season since.

Andreescu did not start his 2025 season in January, and fans do not expect to see her back on the field for some time to come.

Former US Open Champion Bianca Andreescu continues to suffer with damage

Andreescu has suffered a nightmare run of injuries over the past several seasons.

The former world number four has been destroyed by a stress fracture in addition to prolonged back and ankle damage.

Now she has sent another worrying update and announced that she was underwent an emergency to remove her appendix. This took place after she felt some discomfort while preparing for the Merida Open, which was supposed to be her first tournament of the season.

Going to Instagram, Andreescu told her 832,000 followers: “Quick Life update -training went so well and I was very excited about @wtameridaopen to be my first tournament in the 2025 season.

“However, I unexpectedly began to experience some sharp pain in my stomach, which led to an emergency. The operation went smoothly and I am on my way to improvement. “Andreescu then told fans when she expects to turn to tennis.

“My plan is to be back on the course for the clay season, stronger than ever,” she added. “Thank you so much for all your support can not wait to get back to compete!”

When was Bianca Andreescu’s last match?

Andreescu played last at the WTA’s Japan Open in October 2024.

She reached the quarterfinals, where she was beaten by the British number one Katie Boulter 1-6, 2-6.

Andreescu returned to the trip after a nine-month injury absence at the French Open last May, when she came to the third round and lost to the possible runner-up Jasmine Paolini.

Her best result came on the Libema Open on the grass when Andreescu defeated Naomi Osaka on the way to making the final.

Andreescu faced Liudmila Samsonova in the championship match and she took the lead by winning the first set. But the Russian turned the match around and finished 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win.
