Cooper Flagg will go down as the best beginner in Duke Basketball History

Listen, I will be the first to admit that a show coming out on Thursday about last Saturday’s event with coach Cal returning to Kentucky is not ideal. But we had some travel and planning problems that meant we couldn’t film on Monday …. And what were we going to do, not talk about it? Everyone who follows the sport knows that last Saturday was one of the best days of the season: Cal Returns, Duke/UNC, Toppin was thrown out, Tennessee beat Florida without Milicic and Zeigler, etc. etc. Then take a listen to the latest episode of Mark Titus Show If you want to hear thoughts on all this.

In any case, a titus that Titus falls while discussing Duke’s blowout -win over UNC that he preaches Cooper Flagg’s newcomer season in Durham better than Zion Williamson’s. The question is: Is the hype around Cooper the same? Does not seem like that, even if Cooper puts 20 points per day. Fight, grabs 8 boards, dishing out of a handful of assists and locks down on the defense. He is likely to lead this dominant Duke team to the last 4 and could very well cut down the nets as a national champion. Where would it compare to Anthony Davis as the best first -year basketball season in the history of sports? At the surface level, it seems that it still doesn’t surpass it, but Duke is 20-2 right now. What if they are done, what, 36-2? Would be hard to say that they are not at least equal if it happens ….
