When Braxton Garza, a bearded southern with a rich voice, took the scene for his blind audition, one thing was immediately clear: This is a Capital-C country singer. After missing out on most country artists because they all went to Shelton in the years earlier, Levine did not hit his button.

“When it came to voices like yours, my heart has been broken so many times,” Levine told Garza using an apology. Maybe Levine was too confused about his new place in Shelton’s old chair.

Levine should have tried Michael Bublé’s tactics instead. After only one season on The voice (which he won), Bublé has already figured out how to get around the country artist-to-country coach Pipeline: He used his block to prevent Kelsea Ballerini from getting Garza and took him for himself.

“I was so proud of myself to use that blocking the right way. You think I didn’t learn from a whole season with Reba Mcente?” Bublé boasted. Garza was more than happy with the way things turned out and said, “Michael is the man.” Maybe he knows about Bublé’s land phase, mullet and all.

Although she didn’t have a chance to have him on his team, Ballerini would still offer the artist a piece of advice that said to him, “You have a foot in the country, but it’s bigger than that.”

Another way Shelton still affects the coaches is that Kelsea Ballerini has a Blake button on her chair. In the premiere episode, she demonstrated this smart feature that plays the clip of Shelton that insults Levine. “I have it when I really need some backup,” Ballerini explained.

In fact, there are four quotes: “Adam is a big baby,” “Adam … won’t shut up,” “Adam, you say a lot of stupid things,” and “Adam is a crappy coach.” All with love, of course. For the most part.
