National Weather Service released a winter storm for Delaware as heavy snow is expected to hit the state on Tuesday afternoon.

The clock that will take effect at. 13 Tuesday, is expected to bring 3 to possibly 8 inches of snow to the state.

How much snow does Delaware receive?

The original views of the National Weather Service have Sussex and Kent counties that get the hardest hit with the possibility of 6 to 8 inches of snow.

Northern Kent County and southern New Castle County are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of snow. Northern New Castle County is expected to get 3 to 4 inches of snow.

The Delaware Coast is expected to get 4 to 6 inches, but the residents could see a winter mixture rather than snow.

How to drive in the snow

  • Don’t run. If winter weather hits, you should only drive if you have to.

  • Increase by distances. Instead of the traditional two seconds, increase it to five to six seconds. Remember, it takes longer to stop on snow -covered roads.
  • Don’t use cruise control.
  • Hold a half tank of gas in your car.
  • Has an emergency set with cold weather steering control, blankets, extra food and water, a flashlight and a glass scraper.
  • Keep your phone charged in case of an emergency.
