Change the special electoral law in Westchester, or Elon Musk and DOGE can visit

Letter to the editor:

At present, many of you will know that a special choice was held in Westchester County for the Office of County Executive on February 11. This particular choice is held to fill the vacant position left by George Latimer to Congress after his elections a few months back. On January 6, county legislator Vice President Ken Jenkins appointed to complete the position temporarily and determine a date of a special choice. The arbitrarily selected date is just over 30 days after Jenkins’ appointment, and the one who wins will have to run again in November this year. County laws prescribe the need for a special choice within the 90 -day window period and a law goes back to 1938. The legislator could have used the full 90 -day period (end of March or early April) to help helping to Increase the voter’s awareness of this special choice, the candidates and maximize turnout. If I was very cynical, I would think that this arbitrary date was made consciously, so that one side, in this case the Democrats, will take advantage of their full advantage. But my original standard position is to give the benefit of the doubt unless I have reason to believe otherwise.

Since it is this special choice that costs taxpayers $ 4 million to implement, we should be looking to save money not to spend them unnecessarily, for that purpose the county legislation must be mandated this must be changed. So, for example, if the county director has less than a year back, or better yet, less than 2 years back in his or her period and has to leave the office for whatever reason, there is no special choice and the designated acting county chief must serve The rest of the term until the next parliamentary election to this office. It should help save taxpayers’ money. I sincerely wish Mr. Jenkin’s good luck in his new job and hopes he will do well for this county, but this is not about to leave on the right foot and this law needs to be changed.
