Pittsburgh (KDKA) -Duolingo Owl has died, according to a statement from the Pittsburgh-based company.

“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Duo, formally known as Duolingo Owl, is dead,” the language learning app published on social media on Tuesday morning.

Duolingo says “authorities” are investigating his cause of death and the company is cooperating.

“Tbh, he probably died and waited for you to do your lesson but what do we know. We are aware that he had a lot of enemies but we ask you to ask you from sharing why you hate him in the comments.

In a statement to KDKA TV, a spokesman confirmed that the duo is actually dead as part of a brand marketing campaign, but people should actually refrain from sending their credit card information.

To mark Duo’s death, Duolingo has updated its social media profile images and appicon to portray a photo of the bird with XS for eyes.

Duolingo says it has embraced a “healthy and unhinged” brand tone after its green owl -mascot turned into an internet sensation.

“Our mascot was originally designed to encourage your family to make sure you finish your lessons,” the company wrote in its handbook.

As of week, it pointed out that this is not the first time a fire mascot is dead. Mr. Peanut died and came back as baby enjoyed in 2020. As far as the next one is for duo, it seems that grieving will have to wait and see.
