Charlottesville, Va. (Wvir) – snow continues on this Tuesday. To become moderate to heavy at times.

First Alarm Weather Day Tuesday to Wednesday for significant snow and some ice.

National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the entire region until officially at. 7 Wednesday.

The heaviest snow bands will occur this afternoon and evening.

There will be some gossip and freezing rain mixing tonight, especially south.

Temperatures will be near freezing. It will allow the snow to be heavy, wet and slushy. Travel will be dangerous in the middle of the afternoon, evening and tonight! If you don’t have to be out on the roads it’s best to stay home.

The total snowfall before the early Wednesday will mainly range from four to eight inches for most communities. The higher amounts depend on exactly where a heavier snow band will set. It will snow at a speed of an inch or two per hour for at least a few hours.

There will be locally higher amounts of snow. Especially over the higher heights. Blue Ridge Mountains get as much as a foot of snow! A sharp cut probably looks south of the James River. Mainly from Route 460 and South. This is where gossip and freezing rain will interfere earlier.

This will be a mainly snow event. With some gossip and ice when this system comes out late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

It will be a snow covered for the rest of Tuesday. Snow gets heavier this afternoon and evening. More inches of snow expected. This will be a pledging and bucket-mutual amount of snowfall.

Some ice cream and gossip when the system departs on Wednesday morning. The biggest chance of mixing will be near and south of the James River.

Power cuts possible as this will be a heavy, wet snow.

There will definitely be school closures on Wednesday. Possibly again on Thursday.

We get a break in much of the stable rainfall during the day Wednesday. However, a new batch of mixed rainfall arrives and mainly rain on later Wednesday afternoon and evening.

National Weather Service has now released an Ice Storm warning for Blue Ridge Mountains from 1 p.m. 15 Wednesday to 7 p.m. 16 Thursday. This is for significant glaze or glaze of ice from freezing rain. About a quarter of an empty ice is expected on mainly elevated and untreated surfaces. Power cuts possible.

Winter weather advisory at the same time for the Shenandoah Valley. This will be for a thin glaze of ice on elevated and untreated surfaces.

Improving weather conditions Thursday and Friday. The next storm system brings mainly a cold rain in the region this weekend. A risk of flooding this weekend must be closely monitored.
