Varun Chakaravarthy, who replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal in India’s Champions Trophy, wounded; Out of 3rd ODI VS England

India made three changes for the third and final Ody against England at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Two of them were tactical while being forced. India’s Captain Rohit Sharma, who was sent to the bat of his colleague Jos Buttler, confirmed the same at Kled on Wednesday. Less than 24 hours after being included in India’s Champions Trophy team instead of Open Yashasvi Jaiswal, Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was excluded by this match due to an injury. “Unfortunately, Varun did not pull up well,” Rohit said at the throw.

Chakaravarthy, who debuted two days ago in Cuttack, injured his right calf. “Varun Chakaravarthy was not available for selection for the 3rd ODDI due to a sore right calf,” BCCI gave an official update moments after Rohits message.

There were no updates on the extent of the injury, but the Indian team management would hope that it is not serious as India has already completed their Champions Trophy team and any changes would now require approval from the ICC technical committee.

Chakaravarthy was replaced by KoldePe Yadav. The Left Army Handle Spinner also needs some playing time after having a low-pitched back to the international cricket after an injuries to the Nagpur serial opener.

The other two changes were tactical. Veteran Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja got a breath when India decided to give a match to Washington Sundar. The same for Mohammed Shami, who is ready to lead India’s tempo attack in Dubai in a week’s time. T20i -Specialist Arshdeep Singh became the draft XI for the first time in this ODD series. He is ready to share the new ball with Harshit Rana, who was chosen as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for Champions Trophy.

This was the last match before the tournament starts on February 19th, India wanted to maximize this ODI by giving as much game time as possible to all team members.

When Rohit was asked about the two debutants Chakaravarthy and Hardhit Rana, Rohit said the team management has tried to keep the pressure away from them. “They are pretty new in their careers, so we want to keep the pressure away from them, let them do their own, and they have had great potential,” he said.

India won the first two ODDs to take a non-accessible 2-0 lead in the series three-match series.
