St. Louis-a two-phase winter weather system is set to influence Missouri this week. St. Louis is in the transition zone and it can have a significant impact on Wednesday’s snowfall forecast.

The first wave brings light snow to long southern counties late tonight and Tuesday with minimal influence on Metropolitan St. Louis area. Accumulations range from a dust to 2 inches south of a line that extends from Cuba to Festus and over to Salem, Illinois.

Winter Storm Wave #2

The second system, expected noon Wednesday to Wednesday night, promises more significant disruptions. This storm will deliver a mixture of snow, gossip and freezing rain throughout the region with potential challenges for travel.

Defeating patterns vary by location. Areas north of Interstate 44 in Missouri and northwest of Interstate 70 in Illinois are likely to experience snow. Metro St. The Louis region can predict a snow and gossip mixture with some freezing rain possible. Southern areas can primarily see freezing rain or cold rain.

Preliminary snowfall projections:

  • Northern Regions: 5-7 inches

  • Metro St. Louis: 1-3 inches of snow and sleet
