Every can of tongue product that is remembered for risk of botulism

If you have recently purchased canned tuna, you might be able to check what’s in your pantry. On February 7, Tri-Union Seafoods announced a voluntary recall of its can tuner after receiving message that A manufacturing error can compromise the quality and safety of the products. The company sells canned tuna under several brand names, including Trader Joe’s, Genoa, Van Camp’s and HEB.

Why is canned tuna remembered?

The company’s message that is shared by US Food & Drug Administrationexplains that the recall is “out of an abundance of caution” due to a manufacturing error in some “slightly open” tab can lid. The defect “may compromise the integrity of the product seal (especially over time), causing it to leak, or worse, be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.” BotulismWhich can cause difficulty breathing, muscle paralysis and even death is caused by a toxin made of Clostridium botulinum. Consumers should not eat tuna and neither discard nor return it, even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Check UPC for your can tuna to confirm if it is included in the recall. Many of the affected products have “best if used by” dates from December 2027 to January 2028. The following products are remembered:

What should I do if you have the recalled canned tuna

Checked your pantry and confirmed that you actually have one of the recalled products? Do not use the product (Read: Eat or cook with tuna) even if it doesn’t look bulbed or smells spoiled. You can return it to the retailer for a full refund, throw it away, or contact the Tri-Union Seafoods directly for a fetch kit and coupon for a replacement.
