Cold rain to continue over Charlotte before short break at the end of the work week

Charlotte, NC (WBTV) – Cold rain continues over the Charlotte area on Wednesday, but a break comes at the end of the working week.

  • Today: Wet and cold, more rain, temps hold mainly in the 30s
  • Thursday-Friday: The sun returns Thursday PM, holding Friday
  • Weekend: Rain returns on Saturday, continues Sunday

The first alarms are upwards to Thursday morning as a very wet and cold pattern holds close to the WBTV display area.

More rain and pockets of ice continue today with readings that last in the 30s (but over freezing everywhere east of the mountains) most of the day. In the mountains where temperatures hovers around 32 degrees today, rain will continue to freeze, adding icing of ice to trees and power lines. Traveling can be dangerous, but roads will mainly be just wet.

Rain could sometimes be heavy tonight in the very early morning hours on Thursday before pulling away with a warmer afternoon to follow. Sunshine Thursday afternoon helps increase high temperatures in the mid -60s!

Friday still seems to be a good day. Valentine’s Day will be dry from start to finish with sunshine and seasonal heights in the lower 50s.

Unfortunately, another rainfall will gradually unfold over the weekend and the first warnings remain up. The finer details are not yet known, but data strongly suggests that rain will be for at least some of both weekend days.

Heights on Saturday will probably be about 50 degrees before jumping up to the mild middle 60s Sunday, when some thunder is possible with the rain.
