Monaco 0-1 Benfica – UEFA Champions League Result As Pavlidis gives Portuguese Side narrow main heading into another stage

Pavlidis beats again to give Benfica other leg lead

Vangelis Pavlidis scored his fifth UEFA Champions League goal in three games when Benfica came by Monaco to take a 1-0 lead into the second stage of their knockout phase-play-off.

After an abysmal opening period, Greece’s international stalemate for the visitors broke just three minutes after the interval with an exquisite chip from a tight angle inside the box.

Things went from bad to worse for Monaco just four minutes later when Moatasem Al Musry got another yellow shortly after gesticulating to the judge that Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras himself had to receive another reservation.

The rest of the match was the limitation of damages for Adi Hutter’s men as the Portuguese side seemed to take advantage of the man for benefit and push for a moment.

Benfica was largely wasting, but came closest to doubling their lead when Pavlidis was denied a second from close range of radoslaw Majecki.

The page that comes out on top after next week’s second stage in Lisbon creates a last-16 match-up with either Liverpool or Barcelona.

Monaco will be without all musratics after his red card, as well as Captain Denis Zakaria and Vanderon after they picked up a reservation each.

Meanwhile, former Real Madrid wings Angel di Maria can be excluded from Bruno’s men’s men after going with what seemed to be a hamstring injury, just 21 minutes after he arrived.

Prior to next week’s second stage, Monaco looks to return to winning ways as they host Nantes in Ligue 1 while Benfica travels to Santa Clara.
