Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs on Boston Celtics

There is another game until the All-Star break, and San Antonio Spurs are looking to go into the weekend on a winning row. After a return match against Washington WizardsThe spurs go north of a game toward the defense champion Boston Celtics.

Celtics is led by a stacked starting lineup containing Jayson Tatum, Derrick White and Kristaps Porzingis. They can be without key pieces in Jaylen Brown, which is questionable, and JRUE Holiday, listed as out. If San Antonio can keep some of the momentum they experienced during their big runs early and late in the Wizards game, they can play with this Boston group.

The sprouts are currently sitting three games out of the 10 seeds and a play-in place. They have just over 30 games to put together this earth. Taking a star’s Celtics team that goes into the break would be a great way to get started with their playoff -push.

What to look at:

The Fox-Wemby Combo

De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama had their best game as a duo against the wizards. Twosome combined to 60+ points and sealed the game down the stretch with their coupling offensive games. Wembanyama looks like he’s winning a certain strength back and Fox seems to settle down more. The two-man game could be particularly difficult to protect for Boston. Wembanyama can pull Porzingis away from the basket and Fox needs an advantage against Boston’s guards without a vacation. Another great game from San Antonio’s stars could help them seal a win.

Protection of Tatum

Like him or not, Tatum has become one of the best scorers in the NBA. San Antonio will have to become creative to slow him down. Tatum presents a matchup problem for Spurs starters as they do not have a player in the first five to match him. Jeremy Sochan or potentially Stephon Castle are the best matchups and should have plenty of options to take on Celtics Star. The spurs may need to try some zone or doubles to slow down Tatum on Wednesday night.

Checking the glass

Celtics is a big, physical team. They are top-10 in NBA in rebounding. San Antonio has experienced some trouble securing the glass recently. Without Charles Bassey from the bench, they are dependent on Sochan as a backup center. Maybe Wednesday is the game we finally see Bismack Biyombo, debuting with Spurs. Whatever they need to make a team effort to keep the C’s away from the boards and make the most of their defensive belongings.
