Ekaterina Alexandrova against Jessica Pegula – Doha
Jelena Ostapenko vs. Wed Jabeur – Doha

It would have been quite understandable if Alexandrova turned a stink after her dramatic three-win over Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 32. However, the 30-year-old came out and flashed Elise Mertens, who won 6-4, 6- 6-2 in an incredibly one-sided match. It is now pretty clear that Alexandrova is playing some of the best tennis on the WTA Tour when she won a title in Linz before heading to Doha. With that in mind, I really like the idea of taking Alexandrova to win a set against Pegula on Thursday. I just think she has a stability in her game that should at least result in a long battle against pegula. I wouldn’t even be surprised if she wins directly. But the acting I wanted to make is the set spread, and the odds are just not favorable enough. So I parlay it with what I see as a safer player gets the odds of a much more tasty -108.

The safer acting encourages Jabeur to win a set against Ostapenko. The Tunisian actually beat Ostapenko in Abu Dhabi last week and earned a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over her. It was definitely a match that could have gone both ways, and Ostapenko’s talent makes it difficult to exclude a direct victory here. But I didn’t think Jabeur had his best level last week. That’s not the case here. Her 6-4, 6-2 win over Qinwen Zheng was insanely impressive and she has not dropped a set through three games. Jabeur just loves these slower conditions and she is a massive fan favorite at this tournament. So with the whole momentum and adrenaline on her side, I would be stunned if she can’t win at least one set. Ostapenko is likely to be a little thrown out of the atmosphere.

Parlay: Alexandrova +1.5 Set & Jabeur +1.5 Set (-108-1.5 units)

Elena Rybakina vs. Iga swatek – doha

Given that I risked 1.5 units at Swatek to win Qatar TotalEnergies open at +400 odds, I will not personally play anything here. However, I thought really long and hard on putting 3.5 games with the rod. We just saw Swatek beat Rybakina in straight sets in January’s United Cup and earned a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win on these faster courts in Sydney. These conditions really favored Rybakina, but she was still unable to find a way to win. Well, the slow, windy conditions in Doha should give Swatek a huge edge, which is why I think we will see at least one crooked set here.

It’s just very difficult to breeze through service games in this tournament as the ball jumps high and gives recurring chances of getting into points. It will be rough for Rybakina as Swatek will have a massive advantage from the baseline here. Rybakina is a solid mover these days, but she will not be able to keep her own in longer events with Swatek. The rod will play with shape and do everything she can to move Rybakina around the field. It should really fluster Rybakina, who also happens to have a lot going on from the field right now.

I also love that Swatek was able to hang on her skin on her teeth in her fight against Linda Noskova’s last round. Swatek usually responds nicely after a match so tight.

Strong Lean: Swatek -3.5 Games (-105)
