The police standoff on the evening at Fort Wayn’e North Side ends peaceful

Fort Wayne, Ind. (WPTA) – Fort Wayne Police Department says that a person experiencing a mental health crisis is now in the hospital after a standoff on the city’s northern side on Wednesday night.

Police say they were called to the 11000 block by the carriage court in a quarter at West Dupont Road, around 2 p.m. 20:30 after medication tried to treat someone with serious mental illness.

According to FWPD officials, it was eventually discovered that the person had a gun and had barricaded himself inside a home.

After an hour -long standoff, police say members of the department’s Emergency Services Team (EST) and Krisesvar team were able to enter the home and remove the individual without incident right after 10 pm. 12:15 PM Thursday.

FWPD says the individual was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
