More winter precision turns back tonight to Sunday

Fort Wayne, Ind. (21alive) – First Alarm Weather Days is in effect this weekend thanks to the chance of more rain and snow.

Fort Wayne, Ind. (21alive) – It’s hard to believe that we’re about halfway through February and winter is still in full swing! This weekend brings several rounds of rain, snow and mixed rainfall:

  1. Round No. 1: This morning through noon today
    1. Expect the chance of rain, freezing rain and snow showers through the middle of the day today. Some mixed precipitate is probably with freezing rain, potentially creating a few smooth spots this morning. Nevertheless, most locations will receive less than 0.1 ″ ice and snowfall amounts only up to approx. 2 ″.
  2. Round No. 2: Rain tonight turning to snow showers early for noon Saturday
    1. A short window in the afternoon today will be dry, but rain seems to be pushing into the tip time and continuing for much of the evening before turning to snow showers past around midnight. In this window late tonight, there is a short period of mixed precise possible, but it seems that the transition will be quite quick from rain to snow. Scattered snow showers appear to move in during the first part of the day Sunday, bringing another 1 to 3 ″ snow to the area.
  3. Round No. 3: Lake Effect to follow
    1. Near dinner Sunday on-and-off lake effect snow showers are likely and will continue through large parts of the evening. This adds between a 0.5 ″ to 1.5 ″ on top of what we have had.

When everything is said and done, we expect between 2 to 5 ″ inches of snow from both days this weekend with some communities that ensure higher quantities closer to Lake Michigan.

Your next first alarm:

Wind refrigerations will be between –5 to –15 degrees to Monday and Tuesday morning, so bundle up because it will be bitterly cold! Heights return to teens with low in the individual digits both these days. The cold weather continues throughout the work week with mainly dry and good at normal temperatures.
