Forecast: Covered roads cause slippery driving, also bitter blast

Central Missouri is cold Monday morning with temperatures in the teens.

Motorists will still be dealing with covered roads after this weekend’s winter storm. IF you have to go to work today, KOMU 8’s First Alert Weather team suggests adding plenty of extra time and taking it very slowly.

Winter storm hits central Missouri, causing power outages in several counties

Mid-Missouri saw the brunt of the winter storm roll in on Sunday, and with it came power outages in some Mid-Missouri counties. Cooper County had the largest number of outages.

Patrick Wood, communications manager for Co-Mo Connect Electric, said the cause of the outage is caused by “galloping lines.”

Columbia’s public transit woes leave residents, drivers, in the lurch

Jack Mason, an army veteran, has been forced to adapt to life on the outskirts of Columbia after rent increases pushed him out of downtown. Now he faces long walks or long waits just to get to the city center.

While Mason says the trip keeps him in shape, he said Columbia’s bus service is unreliable and often leaves him stranded. He said he remembers one instance where he had to walk miles in the snow to help a family member.

City Council to vote on adding trails to Gans Creek Improvement Plan

Another 3.5 miles of hiking and biking trails could be added to the Gans Creek Recreation Area improvement project if approved Monday at the Columbia City Council meeting.

Council members will vote on a revised plan that would increase the total new trail length to 10.5 miles. A public hearing on the track extension will take place Monday before council members vote.

Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine calls for investigation after spread of false posts

In a statement Friday, Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine called for an investigation into the person responsible for creating a fabricated Instagram post that spread on social media last week.

The circulated screenshot was made to look like a post by MSJP claiming the organization praised Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the driver in the New Orleans New Year’s Eve attack that killed 14 people.
