Gina Rodriguez Debuts Will Trent Season 3 Trailer: Watch (Exclusive)

Will Trent finally comes home.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive first look Will Trent season 3, the titular character (Ramón Rodriguez) faces the consequences of the arrest of his girlfriend, Angie (Erika Christensen). After disappearing for six months following the ordeal, the special agent is forced to return when another criminal demands to negotiate with him by name.

“You thought you could hide forever,” Amanda (Sonja Sohn) says as she confronts Will in the trailer. “Time to come home.”

However, Will’s return is not without consequences. When he arrives at the precinct, Faith (Iantha Richardson) has taken over his office. After making sure Will is “okay,” Faith throws a stapler on his back to “go and not tell anyone where you were for six months.”

The trailer cuts to Will lying on his back in grief as he struggles to move on from losing Angie.

“I arrested the love of my life last year, I’m a pathologically meticulous person,” he admits. “If I could be any other way, I would.”

But a brand new season also means new cases and faces.

“I’m a prosecutor. We deal with truth and facts,” says Marion (Gina Rodriguez), introducing herself to the crew.

She later works with Will on a missing persons case. In the interrogation room, the crime-fighting duo question a suspect about a missing girl.

After the assailant claims they “have nothing on me,” Marion reveals they “have the murder weapon,” to which Will then points out, “You were carrying around like an idiot.”

The two eventually leave the room, leaving the suspect to cook. Marion and Will place bets and Will reveals an adorable picture of his chihuahua, Betty, before the perpetrator in question can’t take the pressure and offers to talk.

While Will may not be over Angie, he’s coming back to the force with a bang. After scenes of intense chases and kicking down doors, he says ominously: “Let’s be clear: this is Special Agent Will Trent.”
