Environment Agency flood warnings and flood alerts are still in place in the Charnwood area this evening.

The current alerts and warnings are summarized below.

Some advice when you travel:

  • Never attempt to drive through a flood when you do not know the depth. If you can’t see the road surface underwater, it’s too deep! Just six inches of water can cause you to lose control of your car or stall it as water is sucked into the engine and exhaust
  • Two feet of flowing water can sweep away most vehicles (including large 4x4s) and most cars will start floating in as little as one foot of water
  • If you encounter a flooded road, always find an alternate route. Do not ignore road closure signs – they have been posted for your safety
