Pistons great Chauncey Billups receives massive ovation at Ford Field

Detroit – Detroit Pistons legend Chauncey Billups received a standing ovation Sunday night during the Detroit Lions‘ Week 18 contest against the Minnesota Vikings. The recognition came at the 1:43 mark of the first quarter after running back Jahmyr Gibbs scored on the Lions’ second offensive drive with a 25-yard rushing touchdown.

Billups’ appearance marks his first public outing in Detroit since his Hall of Fame induction in October. The Lions’ home crowd gave Billups a warm welcome, but his biggest celebration will come Monday night at Little Caesars Arena during the Pistons’ home game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Billups is currently in his fourth season as coach of the Trail Blazers.

The Pistons will honor their former star with a retail capsule from Mitchell & Ness. The two-piece capsule features a “Mr. Big Shot” T-shirt and a Hall of Fame hoodie. Kroger will present a Billups bobblehead to the first 5,000 fans.

Billups became a legend in Detroit during his eight-year tenure with the Pistons. He became a five-time All-Star, averaging 16.5 points, 6.2 assists and one steal per game. match.
