Slow commutes, crashes, school closings linger for days after winter’s blizzard

The Washington, DC region is still dealing with the effects of Monday’s winter storm, which dumped nearly a foot of snow in some areas. The storm brought snow and ice, forced schools to close and created dangerous driving conditions.

Many major school districts remained closed or delayed Wednesday. Crashes snarled traffic, causing backups for morning commuters. A tractor-trailer crash early Wednesday slowed traffic on Interstate-97 past Crownsville Road in Anne Arundel County.

In Prince George’s County, schools were closed again Wednesday. Officials opened five emergency meal sites to provide students with breakfast and lunch.

In addition to the snow and closures, DC residents are facing road closures, parking restrictions and subway delays due to former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral.
