Dyche insists new Everton owners should consider managerial options | Everton

Sean Dyche has said that Everton’s new owners should explore management options because he has not won enough games this season to keep the pressure off.

The Everton manager spoke to representatives of The Friedkin Group (TFG) after Saturday’s defeat at Bournemouth, which extended the team’s dismal run to one win in 11 Premier League games. Dyche was given no indication his job is under threat or assurances to the contrary, but accepts it must be a consideration for TFG given Everton’s size and results.

Asked about a report that TFG is reviewing his position, he said: “To be clear, it should be. If you’re a company of this size and a club of this size, succession planning should be part of their due diligence. It’s definitely a valid thing to do. Nothing makes me feel weird about it at all. If I owned it, I’d say to my CEO, ‘What if?’ It’s right across the club. We haven’t won enough this season, no doubt about it.”

Dyche, who is out of contract at the end of the season, believes “there is a reality to the situation” with TFG and is aware of the “extenuating circumstances” he has worked under at Everton. Similarly, the reality of three league wins all season and having failed to score in eight of the last 11 games presents the owners with a dilemma in their bid to restore stability.

“I’ve had my knocks, you know that, and I’m still taking plenty of them,” Dyche said. “Resilience is a strange thing in life and I have plenty of it. It’s how you deal with it and always try to support the club. The club is always bigger than me. I’m the custodian. So far I’ve done really well, I think. Can I go and win some games? Can I change the narrative? We’re trying to take it to another level biggest challenge at the moment.”

Everton strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Youssef Chermiti will miss Thursday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough through injury. With Armando Broja on loan, there are doubts that Beto, who has been linked with a return to Italy, could be the only striker available. Dyche refused to be drawn on a potential move for Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene.
