Vinicius Junior was given a two-game ban for violent conduct after a red card in Valencia, cleared for the Super Cup

Vinicius Junior has been banned for two games for violent conduct after being sent off against Valencia.

Vinicius Jr was shown a straight red card for shoving goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during the second half of Madrid’s 2-1 La Liga win at Valencia on Friday. The push was initially missed by referee Cesar Soto Grado, who had to check the pitch monitor before sending the 24-year-old off.

The Spanish FA’s disciplinary committee on Tuesday night confirmed a two-match suspension, plus a €700 fine for Madrid and a further €600 fine for Vinicius Jr. Madrid will appeal the sanction.

It means the Brazil international will miss Madrid’s next two La Liga games against Las Palmas on January 19 and bottom-of-the-table Valladolid on January 25.

The ban only applies to league matches, meaning the striker will be eligible to take part in Thursday’s Supercopa semi-final against Mallorca as well as Sunday’s final if Madrid qualify. Barcelona will play Athletic Club in the second semi-final match.

Vinicius Jr. has been in impressive form this season, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists in 21 games. He played 27 minutes as a second-half substitute in Madrid’s 5-0 win over Deportiva Minera in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey on Monday night.
