A Montgomery County man was arrested after trying to attack three random people with a machete, police say.

According to police, around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, officers responded to the area of ​​Broadbirch Drive and Tech Road for reports of a man armed with a machete.

When officers arrived on scene, the suspect ran away through the mall parking lot and struck parked vehicles with the machete.

Officers chased the suspect, who they say tripped and fell shortly after the pursuit began, causing him to drop the machete. The officers took him into custody and secured the machete.

Police spoke with three victims who stated that the suspect attempted to attack them with the machete for no apparent reason near the mall. The victims were able to get away from the suspect and flee to safety.

The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Maikol Darinson Vicente Gomez, was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with three counts of first-degree assault and second-degree assault, two counts of vandalism and resisting arrest. arrest and related charges.

Gomez is being held without bond.
