Australian Open 2025 draw: How to watch and follow

For fans not at Melbourne Park, the draw ceremony will be streamed live at the Australian Open YouTube channel and Facebook page.

The Australian Open draw, led by tournament director Craig Tiley and tournament referee Wayne McKewen, sets the scene for an exciting 15 days of main draws.

The seeds, announced in the days leading up to the draw, are selected on numbered tokens drawn from the trophies and then placed in their respective sections. This creates the possibility for exciting match-ups between top players in later rounds.

EXPLAINER: How seeds differ from placements

Unseeded players are then randomly placed into the draw, completing the first round of matches – a process that often throws up some blockbusters. Do you remember last year when no. 1 seed Iga Swiatek drew AO 2020 champion Sofia Kenin as his first round opponent?

The Australian Open 2025 main draw begins on Sunday 12 January.
