NBCs Saturday Night Live is back with its next edition of “SNL: 50 Seasons in 50 Days,” focusing on one season and one sketch each day until the big 50th anniversary event in February (more on that below). For this go-around, we’re looking at Season 40 (February 15, 2015) and NBC’s Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special. The sketch? “Notoriety Jeopardy!” with Alex Trebek (Will Ferrell) taking on a lineup that included his gameshow nemesis, Sean Connery (Darrell Hammond), Justin Bieber (Kate McKinnon), Tony Bennett (Alec Baldwin), Burt Reynolds (Norm Macdonald), Matthew McConaughey (Jim Carrey), and Christoph Waltz (Taran Killam) – with a harrowing appearance by Bill Cosby (Kenan Thompson).

SNL 50 Previews: “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night” and more!

Before we get to the big party on February 16 and NBC’s documentary event, Ladies and gentlemen… 50 years of SNL music on January 27, Peacock and Academy and Emmy Award winner Morgan Neville will offer us an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at what makes NBC’s Saturday Night Live the enduring and influential institution that it has been for 50 seasons. With more than 60 contributors, including alumni, and covering decades of history, it is four episodes SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night reveals new insights into the show’s history and pulls back the curtain on everything from the writers’ room to the famous audition process. With all four episodes set to hit the Peacock on January 16, here’s a look at what you need to know:

Peacock’s SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night is a four-part docu-series honoring the legacy of SNL, with over 60 contributors, including SNL alumni, covering decades of SNL history. Each episode spotlights some of the show’s most iconic elements and delves into SNL’s rich history, pulling back the curtain on the audition process, the writers’ room, the fan-favorite “More Cowbell” sketch and the pivotal season 11.

Episode 101, “Five Minutes” – A showcase of the audition process, featuring never-before-seen audition footage and first-hand accounts from some of the show’s most iconic names as they reflect on their preparation and journey to the SNL stage.
