There will be lower bank fees | eKathimerini.com

From Thursday, Greek banks must reduce the fee to 0.5 euros for all transfers up to €5,000 as a new regulation harmonizing the cost of sending money within the EU for all types of transfers comes into effect.

The implementation of the regulation brings Greek lenders one step closer to the obligation imposed by the government to reduce the commission for money transfers up to €5,000 to just 50 cents. For amounts above €5,000, the banks must implement new rates, but they cannot distinguish between different types of transfers, such as sending within seconds and a common transfer that requires one, two or more days.

It should be noted that the new regulation does not allow for an upper or lower commission limit for a transaction, and the limit of €0.5 is the result of the government’s decision to make money transfers via web or mobile banking available for certain amounts, which until now was subject to a commission of €1 to €2.50.

As part of the state interventions, the banks are required to reset the commission for payments via web and mobile banking of debts relating to the state, social funds, municipal organizations, energy, telecommunications, at the latest by the end of the month. , water supply companies and insurance companies. The measures relate to transactions carried out by individuals, freelancers and sole proprietorships.

From the same date, the fee for withdrawing cash in municipalities where there is only one ATM in a bank will also be zero. Therefore, the fee for balance inquiries at another bank’s ATM nationwide has been reset to zero – currently €0.20. The fee for topping up prepaid cards up to €100 will also be zero (from around €1 currently applicable). Finally, the 50% reduction in commission for purchases with debit, credit and prepaid cards via POS is extended, from €10 today to €20.
