Snow likely for the Texas Panhandle

Snow forecasts have changed dramatically over the past 12 hours for the Texas Panhandle from Thursday’s forecast. All models are combined into a solution that would provide much of the pan handles and eastern New Mexico with at least light snow amounts. Accumulations of 1-2 inches are expected inside the winter weather advisory, which will be in effect from 06.00 Thursday to 06.00 Friday.

Localized bands of heavier snow are expected, but it remains difficult to pinpoint areas of improved snow at this time. Generally speaking, a wide swath of 1-3 inches of snow is likely with narrow corridors of 3-6 inches possible.

Thursday morning’s commute may be affected by much smaller snow accumulations as snow begins to develop in the south Texas panhandle.

As the day progresses, snow will become more widespread along Interstate 60 at moderate rates at times.

The evening commute on Thursday can expect slick road conditions, low visibility and blowing snow across much of the Texas panhandle. As the evening turns to night, the snow begins to decrease from north to south.

Cold temperatures are expected Friday morning with lows near 20 degrees and wind chills in the single digits. The cool weather will continue through the weekend and early next week with below average highs Monday and Tuesday. Be ready for the weather!
