Georgia’s Carson Beck to enter transfer portal: Source

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck intends to enter the transfer window, a source briefed on the decision said Thursday.

Beck, a two-year starter for the Bulldogs, announced on Dec. 28 that he declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old, who passed for 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns in his Georgia career, suffered a UCL injury in December’s SEC championship game that required season-ending surgery.

On3 first reported Beck’s plans to enter the portal.

Beck waited three years at Georgia to become the starter and finally got the job before the 2023 season, where he emerged as a star. He debated turning pro, but opted to return this season, partly because he wasn’t sure he’d be a high first-round pick and partly because he wanted to continue playing, which he knew was a certainty at Georgia, but not in the NFL.

Last season, Beck’s numbers dipped, especially his accuracy (64.7 percent, down from 72.4 percent in 2023). But Georgia still won the SEC championship, albeit with Beck out in the second half of the win over Texas, but came down to the final handoff to win.

“Obviously when you look at the stats, they’re not the same stats as the year before,” Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said of Beck. “But the goal, if you’re in this league, is to win the SEC championship. And he was the quarterback on that team that got us to that game and put us in that position.”

Beck underwent surgery in mid-December, with Georgia saying only that Beck would be able to “throw in the spring.” Neither Beck nor anyone in his camp has publicly commented since his injury on a timetable for a return.

When Beck was injured, Georgia turned to redshirt sophomore Gunner Stockton, who guided the team to the second half and overtime of the SEC championship, then the Sugar Bowl. Although Georgia lost that game and the offense struggled, Stockton played relatively well, passing for 234 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. But the team seemed to miss Beck’s experience and game management.

It is not clear if Georgia and Beck had any discussion about him returning.

“Carson’s injury was significant and needed to be repaired and repaired and he did just that. It’s the best thing for his long-term future,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said before the Sugar Bowl. “And he met with some really good people who have focused on that injury before and made that decision based on his career and his future.”
