Will storm close Indy area schools? Some won’t go back until Tuesday anyway. Check the list

Snow and icy roads are in the forecast for Sunday, January 5 and Monday, January 6, leaving many parents wondering when their children will return to school after the winter break.

For many students, that call was made months ago as school districts passed their 2024-2025 calendars.

Many schools have already scheduled teacher work days. Those districts will likely make the call on whether to require teachers to come to school as the storm approaches. Other districts, such as Indianapolis Public Schools and Perry Township Schools, are scheduled to return on Monday.

In most area school districts, including Marion County and Hamilton County, superintendents make the final call on whether to close or delay classes after weighing a number of factors such as traffic safety and weather forecasts.

Here’s a look at schools still on vacation Monday, when Indianapolis is expected to be in the middle of a winter storm that could dump more than 10 inches of snow in some parts.
