Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson are not terribly impressed with the leadership of California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in the midst of raging wildfires that have claimed several lives and thousands of homes.

Gibson joined Rogan for Thursday’s edition of The Joe Rogan Experience and Gibson told Rogan he would be “surprised” if his California home is still standing amid the fires, which began in Pacific Palisades . He said his son, fellow actor Milo Gibson currently volunteering with fire crews in Malibu. Gibson also maintains a property in Costa Rica.

Rogan accused Newsom of “personally” destroying California and mocked him for spending more than 20 billion dollars on homelessness over the course of a few years with little or no results. Rogan very publicly left California in 2020 after living there for more than 20 years. He now runs his podcast from Austin, Texas, where he has also opened a comedy club called Comedy Mothership. A number of comedians followed Rogan’s footsteps and left California, including Joey Diaz , Tom Segura and Theo Von .

Gibson accused Newsom of doing little to nothing to address dry foliage in forests that can help lead to wildfires, at one point joking, “All our tax dollars probably went to Gavin’s hair gel.”

“The whole state is just so poorly managed. It’s so frustrating and confusing and then he comes on TV and pretends everything is great. “California is the best, we have the best state, we have the most amazing economy,” it’s like you’re out of your mind, dude. You destroyed this state. You ruined it personally,” Rogan said.

See the Rogan-Gibson exchange below:

JOE ROGAN: We were just talking about the wildfire situation and how crazy is it that they spent $24 billion last year on the homeless and what did they spend on preventing these wildfires?

MEL GIBSON: Zero.

ROGAN: Zipper.

GIBSON: ‘And in 2019, Newsom said, ‘you know, I’m going to deforest, maintain the forest’ and do all those kinds of things. He didn’t do anything.

ROGAN: He didn’t do anything, and on top of that they cut off the water.

GIBSON: Yeah, that’s right, it’s all in good fun. And then I think all our tax dollars probably went to Gavin’s hair gel. I don’t know, but it’s like, you know, it’s sad. The place is just burning.

ROGAN: The whole state is just so badly run. It’s so frustrating and confusing and then he comes on TV and pretends everything is great. “California is the best, we have the best state, we have the most amazing economy,” it’s like you’re out of your mind, dude. You destroyed this state. You personally ruined it.

GIBSON: Well, it’s the same team that was up in San Francisco and they come down to LA and do what they did in San Francisco. San Francisco is apocalyptic now.
