Zachary Levi blames ‘incredibly bad’ management for LA wildfires

Actor and longtime Los Angeles resident Zachary Levi voiced strong criticism as California battles devastating wildfires, calling on state leaders to be held accountable and describing the situation as “very personal” to him.

“This is the most devastating fire in the history of Los Angeles,” a visibly shaken Levi told “Jesse Watters Primetime” Wednesday night. “My family is from Ventura, California. I grew up there most of my life and then I was in LA for 15 years.”

He further compared the devastating wildfires in the news to “watching a post-apocalyptic war movie.”

Levi said why he believes California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and state leadership should be held accountable.

“This is just incredible mismanagement, incredible mismanagement. I would go so far as to say it’s criminally negligent because I mean Gavin Newsom has either been governor for five years or lieutenant governor before that for eight , nine years, some of the worst fires we’ve ever had in California during that shift. He clearly knows that the biggest problem we suffer from in California is these fires and mudslides that follow,” Levi explained.

“And for them to do basically not just nothing, but worse than nothing, when firefighter budgets are being cut, when they’re specifically, intentionally not doing the work that could be done to avoid these problems or be able to effectively to serve them when they happen.”

“There’s something almost criminally conscious about this. So what are they doing? I don’t know,” Levi asked.

“I have no idea why they do or don’t do the things they do. But they need to be held accountable. This is not good leadership,” he added.

Bass has come under fire for traveling to Ghana as her city struggles with the devastating fires and her cuts to the LA Fire Department’s budget last year.

“Shazaam!” Star also criticized Newsom’s “character”, citing the infamous French Laundry incident during COVID-19, in which Newsom was photographed dining with friends in violation of his own state’s protocols.

“I mean, look, you know, this is the man who in the midst of the pandemic, when people were locked down to go and gather. He was at the French Laundry, having dinner with his friends. What does that say about the character of this man, that didn’t do anything to help the people of California, I don’t believe he is,” Levi said. “And so I think there needs to be some kind of, you know, accountability that’s held to the leadership, not just in California, but in our nation, you know?”

Levi says he considers fire insurance the “most criminal” aspect of the situation.

“I don’t know if you know, but like, about 70% of the insured in Southern California that used to have fire insurance on their home months ago, that insurance was taken away,” Levi said. “The insurance company said, no, we’re not going to offer fire insurance anymore. What are they going to do in flood insurance and in fire insurance? This is a fire hazard. Of course, that’s the insurance they need, and they And just months ago it became removed from people like it’s not okay in any way.

He urged people to keep Southern California affected by the fires in their thoughts and prayers. “We need to send as much love, light and support as we can to everyone affected right now,” Levi said.
