Netflix’s Squid Game season 2 dethroned from the top spot of series by a surprising new show

Squid Game season 2 was dethroned on Netflix’s top 10 list on Tuesday.

The long-awaited sequel to the popular Korean thriller series broke viewership records when it debuted on the streaming service last month.

But just two weeks after premiering on December 26, it has now been dethroned from its top spot by WWE Monday Night RAW.

The WWE flagship show debuted on Netflix to a star-studded audience and a record-breaking 4.9 million views.

The latest acquisition by Netflix means that RAW will now stream there once a week for a decade, according to the deal that Netflix has struck, which is reportedly worth over $5 billion.

And it’s possible that Monday Night RAW could take over the top spot on the popular list for a while.

The upset comes as something of a surprise as the Squid Game season 2 premiere marked record numbers.

The thriller series is set to return with season three sometime in 2025 and is expected to repeat the number one spot.

The next season of the hit series that hails from South Korea could return as soon as June, according to Netflix, which leaks the data.

The chart will also be occupied by long-awaited returns later this year when Stranger Things season five and Wednesday’s season two drop.

Currently, the rest of the list, in addition to RAW and Squid Games, includes Missing You, a new crime drama.

Virgin River, No Good Deed and La Palma occupy places in the latter half of the list.

The top 10 also includes Black Doves and The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah.

The professional wrestling show attracted more than double the average household viewership that the show brought in on USA Network in 2024.
