MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Our coldest conditions of the year so far will set in overnight, making for a cold start to Tuesday! The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory (formerly a Wind Chill Advisory) for Sauk, Columbia, Dodge, Green Lake and Marquette counties until 9 Tuesday. While those are the only counties in the advisory, that doesn’t mean conditions elsewhere will be much better. Most of the region will wake up to chills near 20 below tomorrow morning.

What’s coming…

Make sure you’re bundled up when you head out the door tomorrow morning, and remember the pets too. Temperatures will start around zero and slowly climb into the teens in the afternoon. At least our skies will be sunny again, but a cold northwesterly wind will keep wind chills below freezing most of the day.

Mostly clear skies Tuesday night and temperatures will drop into the single digits again Wednesday morning. Thanks to shifting winds, temperatures will warm throughout the day! Highs on Wednesday will be at least in the lower 20s, if not the mid-20s in places.

Looking ahead…

The warming continues on Thursday and Friday, when we draw in a warm air mass from the south. High temperatures will feel balmy as they reach the upper 30s and lower 40s. That’s over a 20-degree change in high temperatures this week!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t last long. We’re giving you the first alert that another blast of cold air will come out of the Arctic over the weekend and slowly sink into the region. Temperatures will start to cool on Saturday, with highs in the 20s, then we’ll drop into the teens on Sunday. Monday looks set to be the coldest, with temperatures struggling to reach the double digits in the afternoon.
